Transparent Solar Control for Glass, Backed by Nano Engineering

GM-BL is a solvent-based two-component nano heat-insulation coating developed by Dalian Gomin Special Coating Co., Ltd. It combines ATO (antimony-doped tin oxide) nanoparticles — valued for their metallic electrical conductivity and high infrared emission — with CWO (cesium tungsten oxide) particles that deliver targeted near-infrared absorption with outstanding visible-light transparency. Surface modification of the ATO particles suppresses agglomeration, while finely milled CWO ensures a stable, uniform dispersion in a film-forming binder engineered for high transparency, high hardness, strong adhesion, and resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, water, acids and alkalis.

The result is a pale green/blue liquid that cures at room temperature into a nearly invisible functional layer on glass. Unlike tinted films, it never peels at the edges, never bubbles, and can be applied on-site with a simple brush, roller, squeegee or flow-coating process — making it a practical retrofit for existing building envelopes where replacing glazing or applying window film would be costly or prohibited.

Why Heat Rejection Works Best on the Outside

Solar heat is best stopped before it enters the glass. Applied on the exterior surface (face #2 of a single pane), GM-BL reflects and absorbs the majority of incoming infrared radiation, so less heat ever crosses into the interior. This is why the coating performs dramatically better outdoors than indoors — and why it also unlocks applications where films are simply not allowed, such as public transport glazing that must remain breakable for emergency escape.

Application Guide

Tools You Need

GM-BL targeted glass insulation coating (A + B components), thinner, glass polishing powder, sponge brush, lint-free cloth, material tray, brush board, scouring pad and dropper.

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Mix: For each day’s planned usage, add component B into component A at a 1:1 ratio and shake for 1–2 minutes.
  2. Prepare the glass: Scrape off adhered matter with a scraper and mask the window frame with residue-free masking tape.
  3. Polish: Re-polish the glass surface with glass polishing powder — essential where oil contamination is heavy.
  4. Final clean: Wash with a dilute detergent solution, wipe dry and let the glass air-dry naturally.
  5. Coat: At 20–25 g/m², pour the mixed coating into the tray and apply evenly with a sponge brush, finishing top-down; allow to level and dry. Do not touch after application and keep the surface unwashed for 3–5 days so the film cures fully. Normal cleaning can resume afterwards.

Precautions

  • For outdoor work, ensure no rain within 24 hours and apply in the early morning or evening; avoid hot weather that cures the coating too fast. Indoor application should keep ambient temperature below 30°C.
  • Thinner is normally unnecessary. In ambient temperatures above 30°C, add thinner step by step at 10–50% — never exceed 50% of the total usage.
  • Test compatibility on acrylic or polycarbonate substrates before full-scale application on transparent plastics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the coating make my windows look tinted?

The cured film is nearly invisible with only a very faint green-blue cast. Visible light transmittance remains about 68–70%, so interiors stay bright while 93%+ of infrared heat and 98–99% of UV are blocked.

Indoor or outdoor application — which is better?

Outdoor (exterior face) application is strongly recommended: the physics of solar heat rejection means GM-BL performs far better when solar energy is stopped before it penetrates the pane. Overhead glazing is also safer and faster to coat from outside.

How durable is the film?

Very. It passes 10,000 scrub cycles without breaking through, holds pencil hardness ≥5H with 500 g scratch resistance, shows Grade 0 cross-cut adhesion, and after 3,000 hours of artificial weathering shows zero gloss loss, zero chalking and Grade 0 adhesion. Outdoor-grade versions resist 500 h water and 300 h acid/alkali immersion.

Can it replace window films?

In most retrofit scenarios yes — and in some it is the only option. Public transport and emergency-escape glazing often prohibit film structures; a coating keeps the glass breakable while still providing solar control.

What is the coverage and shelf life?

Apply at 20–25 g per square meter. The liquid is stable for at least one year when stored in a cool, dry place. Once A and B are mixed at 1:1, use the batch the same day.
